Haleakala National Park
Welcome to the Haleakala Volcano Gallery. Here you will find helpul links below as green buttons if you are planning a visit to drive up yourself or hire a professional. Pictures below are designed to give you a flavor of the landscape. Enjoy the tidbits of fascinating information where you may feel like you “are on a different planet . . .”
It all begins with the name- Haleakalā means "House of the Sun".
This massive, dormant volcano that forms most of Maui, and is the third-tallest mountain on Earth from its base on the seafloor rises up just over 10,000 ft to the summit top and over 30,000 ft from the ocean floor far below!
Haleakala National Park offers spectacular, simply stunning views from so many vantage points, including sunrise, and is home to multiple endangered species like the nēnē goose, as well as rare plants. The summit also houses astronomical observatories for research.
Enjoy the photos below that I have taken over a period of years. I hope they give you a sense of the wonder and “unearthly” landscapes in the crater and surrounding cliffs. The view is 360 and you can see other islands on a clear day.
Sunrise is spectacular, see the links below if you are interesting in either driving up yourself (make a reservation) or want to hare a professional company like Valley Isle tours (an excellent, top rated company) I have used myself in the past.
I have included a few helpful links below to help make a fun trip up including pricing, time of year, passes avaialable and a link to the Haleakala website.
